About Me
Just been advised of this site by the current headmaster of H P. Was at Newells from 1964 to 1969 in Saxon house. Then went to Hurstpierpoint College (as did many of my contemporaries). Joined H. M . Customs & Excise in 1975 (had applied to the forestry commission!) Very interesting career with the last 6 years based abroad and currently now in the US. Very fond memories of fellow pupils and most of the masters, (and mistresses). Was there for the fire in 68, so annoyed, as had graduated to a 2 dorm room in the old servants quarters. so sad at the loss of Parker (we should have had a service about him and some form of memorial!) I put a memorial to him at my wedding. Remember well Nigel Aveline throwing his clothes from his dorm window, the only one to do so! Along with so many good friends remember the French boy Eric who stayed for a while. I believe his family was in the wine business in Bordeaux, wish I knew him now! Chris, as I recall Col Rieford berrated me often! So it was probably me!
I was the last headboy before the fire, Loved your jumbled memories, fantastic recollections. It now seems like a 1000 years ago and how times have changed!
His name was Erik Samazeuilh and he once thought he had seen green fingers outside the dorm window ( a four bed double bunk dormitory ) and was so terrified he jumped into Simon Levaillants bed and refused to get out !
